Contemplative
Japanese gardens have been developed over centuries to offer a space of calmness. A totally Japanese style garden can be too much for some, but by using some of the principles and elements of this style, you can create a little piece of calm in you own back garden.
You could include an oriental style arbour in which to practice Yoga, Meditation or Tai Chi, or just for a relaxing pot of afternoon tea, winding paths through planting, curvaceous mounds of box plants, stepping stones through areas of bamboo, areas of calm with lawn, or gravel, a reflective pool or water feature, and plenty of seating to allow you to relax and unwind after a long day at work.
