Annuals and biennials
Annuals are plants that are sown, grow, set seed and die all in one year however they can be useful to add colour in the gaps between young shrubs e.g. trailing Lobelia and Bacopa and also in patio containers and hanging baskets.
Biennials are sown, grow but do not flower until the following year. They will set seed and then generally die. They are useful for providing colour and food for pollinators early in the summer e.g. Foxgloves and Honesty.
