Small New Build Garden – Fairfield

This was a relatively new property on poor ground mainly laid to lawn. The brief was to create a miniature English Country garden with soft planting and a pergola to walk through. There was a problem area to the side of the house which needed some interest.

My approach to the design was to create a curved terrace outside the rear entrance tto the house which linked to the driveway with a path and pergola planted with roses and clematis.

A seat was positioned against an adjacent wall with climbers planted either side of it. From here the view was through the verticals of the pergola to a sundial. To the narrow area to the side of the house, I added a randomly laid path of sandstone with was flanked by soft shade loving plants. At the end of this path, a bird bath provided a focal point.
