Front Garden – Ampthill
This small front garden consisted mainly of lawn which sloped towards the house with a fading Holly hedge and concrete slabs as a path to the house.
The client wanted a smarter, inviting look to the front of the house with soft romantic planting to welcome guests and passer’s by.
My approach to the design was to use the change in level to create a brick raised bed adjacent to the public path with new paving stones to freshen the feel of the garden.
I wanted to bring some of the personality of the clients to the garden and took inspiration from the painting of a dragon they had done with their grand-child on a shed in the back garden. I used box balls of different sizes to re-create a curved dragon shape set within gravel.
The soft herbaceous planting in the raised bed provided all year colour and scent.
