Flowers and Images from Gardens

About Me

From graduating with a Biochemistry degree I started a career in management with a national food retailer, but after 17 years I realised that I wanted a change in direction more aligned to my aspirations.

After qualifying for a Diploma in Garden Design with the KLC School of Design in London, I set up my practice in 2005 and now provide garden consultants, design and planting schemes for gardens, mainly in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

I am a pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers, the professional association for garden designers in the UK, which means that the standard of design work I produce has been approved by the Society and I can work towards full registration.

I gained a Royal Horticultural Society Certificate in Horticulture in 2009 which I passed with a commendation. From this and my own experience of gardening over many years I have built up the horticultural knowledge to create appropriate and beautiful planting schemes.

My professional experience as a project manager with a national retailer has provided me with the skills and expertise to manage projects large and small, and work effectively with third parties to achieve the required result. Specifically my experience working with packaging design agencies and professional photographers has developed by creative thinking.

Why I love designing gardens

Garden design encompasses many disciplines. Creating a design brief requires having the ability to listen to clients’ dreams and aspirations and then reflecting these in the design. Surveying the site requires mathematical accuracy and attention to detail. Designing requires creativity and problem solving ability. Finally, planting design requires an eye for colour and form and horticultural knowledge.

The diversity of these disciplines is one of the reasons I enjoy designing gardens as it utilises my skills and experience in science, horticulture, design and project management, as well as my ability to understand and respond to the needs of my clients.

Above all, the satisfaction of seeing a finished garden, and a few months down the line, a happy client that loves spending time in their new garden, is a joy.
